ALZHEIMER'S CARE

The Harbor at Tower Hill Healthcare Center is a state certified secured Alzheimer's unit. Individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders can receive the care and support needed to maintain their quality of life, retain personal dignity and maximize independence throughout the entire course of the disease.

Families are a crucial part of the resident's care team. We ask for your input to complete the preadmission assessment. If there is anything that your loved one enjoyed doing many years ago, please let the staff know upon admission. They can develop an activity designed just for them.

The Harbor provides a structured setting. Because most residents in the Harbor have greater social than medical needs, our program is developed with that in mind. Special attention is paid to:

ADMISSION CRITERIA

Each resident is assessed to determine if they meet the following admission criteria for the Harbor: A current diagnosis of Alzheimer's or a related dementia, behaviors consistent with symptoms of Alzheimer's or related dementia are present, ability to meet general criteria for admission to Tower Hill and the ability to participate in and benefit from the activities focused program.

ACTIVITIES

Our activities focused program does much more than keep residents busy. It helps them feel good about themselves. Comfortable tasks like "Busy Hands" a fold and sort activity, baking, or dusting use familiar skills and help the resident feel involved. A van ride to the ice cream shop or a sing a long brings a smile to their face. Residents may be taken outside to the patio/backyard area throughout the day as weather permits. They can enjoy the butterfly garden, smell the flowers and enjoy the fresh air.

DIETARY NEEDS

To help combat the chronic weight loss that can be common with persons with dementia, special consideration is given to food selection, preparation and presentation. Harbor staff is trained to monitor the resident's food/ liquid intake and assist them at mealtimes and provide snacks.
